Getting Stoned Once Again

This past weekend, we had the SuperBowl. And it was interesting. Two teams no one expected to be there, duking it out, finding out who was the team with more ability to show Mettle on one of America's two national holidays made up exclusively for marketers (the other coming up on February 14th).

At halftime, the Rolling Stones performed. And while the performance, in my book, was about a 6 of 10, as far as Superbowl halftime shows goes, there was an interesting conversation at the Superbowl Party I was at. It went something like:

"I wonder how many times he has sung this song and how sick he must be of singing this song."
the response:
"I don't know, I think with all the money he's getting paid, he can't really be sick of it, can he?"
A response:
"I think he should just hang it up."
A response:
"I think it's great that they're still able to get out there and do it! That's awesome!"
"Yah, but even an attractive hooker has a day when she's just not attractive anymore and should put away her boots."

So the conversation was rather amusing...

I'm not even a big fan of the Rolling Stones... but the point I got from the half-time show is that the reason the Rolling Stones sang in the SuperBowl, again, (for the fourth or fifth time), is because no matter how much they're being paid, no matter how tired they get of doing the same thing over, and over, and over, they continue to do what they set out to do: Be a major player, if not THE major player, in the music scene, during their lifetimes.

No matter what anyone says, the Stones have done a lot of little things, since the early 60's, and they continue to do a lot of little things, because of a philosophy of commitment.

And that is an awesome thing to see.
